A veterans’ program in central Florida benefited from a donation from Veterans Support Organization (VSO) this summer.
VSO donated $500 to Knights of Columbus in Winter Garden on June 22 after learning about the challenges facing veterans in the area. VSO employees were working in a nearby Walmart when they met veterans and heard their stories.
“We provide jobs to veterans and then we donate to veterans’ groups and organizations in the communities where donations are received,” said Richard VanHouten, president and CEO of VSO.
VSO’s work program provides employment to many veterans in the Treasure Coast area of Florida. These jobs help struggling veterans — many of them living with disabilities and on the verge of homelessness — get back on their feet and pay off bills and cover their rent.
VanHouten added: “That’s what we do at VSO — we help veterans any way we can.”
