Veterans living in central Florida got a recent donation from Veterans Support Organization (VSO).
While working outside a Walmart store in Sebastian, employees of VSO raised enough money to give a $500 donation to the American Legion Post 64 in Okeechobee.
“We give back to the communities where we work,” said Richard VanHouten, president and CEO of VSO. “This is part of our core mission: to help veterans and give back to the organizations helping them locally.”
VSO’s work program provides jobs for struggling veterans who collect donations from the public in front of stores and on busy intersections in communities across Florida. By working, our employees earn a paycheck and aren’t in need of a handout. And by working together with fellow veterans and other employees, they establish a support network to help them overcome other challenges in their lives.
While working in communities, VSO employees meet other veterans and learn about other veterans’ organizations.
“We try to help these organizations as much as we can,” VanHouten said. “We care deeply about veterans and the communities where they live.”
